Thank You Williams

Last August, Williams Gas Pipeline (Cypress Division, District 35) assisted SMCFD in our emergency preparedness training by providing classroom training to our members. Their District Manager,
Mr. Ron Hales, delivered the classroom sessions to department personnel, on pipeline emergency response. This was done over three consecutive days, one day for each shift. His classroom portion was geared to the pipeline system components that Williams operates in our coverage area, as well as general response information relative to their pipeline system.

In addition to the classroom portion, Williams developed and hosts an online training program for emergency responders, that our members undertook. At the conclusion of the online training program, a quiz is taken. Upon completion of the quiz, participants are automatically registered to enter a drawing, whereby Williams Gas Pipeline selects one recipient per division, and awards a gift of $1,000.

Luckily, a SMCFD firefighter, Aaron Steely, was selected as the winner in this division. Two Williams representatives, Mr. Ron Hales (District Manager) and Mr. Tim Roehrick (Assitant District Manager), presented the check to SMCFD. Receiving the check is Fire Chief Robert Hudson and Firefighter Aaron Steely.

SMCFD will be able to utilize these funds to send one additional firefighter to an upcoming training session for a Peer Fitness Trainer Program. The unexpected gift was very timely as department administration had recently decided to enhance the physical fitness program, and send two participants to the training. The gift of $1,000 allows the department to send a third person, completing the group, and allowing one member from each shift to participate.

The benefits from Williams Gas Pipeline's generosity will have long lasting effects. We anticipate great results in the improved health and wellness of our members, due in large part, to Williams' creative and selfless community involvement.

Special thanks to Mr. Ron Hales for his willingness to invest his time and efforts in helping our department provide better protection for the citizens we serve.
